Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She co-founded The Huffington Post, is the CEO and founder of Thrive Global as well an writer of fifteen novels. Arianna Huffington is a philanthropist, author TV personality, and the owner of the online, independent newspaper The Huffington Post. Born in Greece, Arianna Huffington moved to England with her family when she was age 16. While at Cambridge University she earned a MA degree in Economics. At 21 she became president of the well-known debating group The Cambridge Union' and was the first non-native student to do so. Following graduation, she left her mark as an editor for a conservative newspaper and with the launch of The Huffington Post' few months later, she created an online platform for voice that gave critical opinions regarding the state of affairs. Her popularity led to the recruitment of a number of well-known contributors to post their perspectives about news, politics and other topics. Arianna gained fame after she decided in 2003 to be an independent candidate in the California Recall Election to replace Governor Davis. Additionally, she was a leader of a Detroit energy-efficient vehicle project. In 2009, she was ranked by Forbes as The most influential women in media gaining 12th position on their list. The same year the Guardian named her to the top 100 list of media. AOL Inc. purchased The Huffington Post in 2011 and named her President of their media group, which also included the other AOL properties like Engadget AOL Music Style list and Patch Media. The couple she was born to were journalist and manager Konstantinos and wife Elli Stasinopoulos. While she was closely associated with her father it was the bond she had with her mother, which formed her life. While in her formative time, she showed leadership skills for which her name is still well-known. When she moved to England, she was age 16 to complete her schooling and enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. She joined the Cambridge Union college debate society throughout her college years, where she was the 3rd and only female to be elected president. She graduated in 1972 with an MA in Economics. She was a journalist, a TV host and a columnist after her graduation. Also, she appeared on an edition of Face the music along with Bernard Levin and began writing books taking editorial help from Bernard Levin.
