April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars to win medals at multiple Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal with Alix Klineman who is a first time Olympian. More than that though Ross will be aiming for her very first Olympic gold. As she turns 39, it could be Ross' last chance to win the Olympic gold. She's certain that the top prizes can be achieved. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even If we play our best, I think we could win the gold medal." Also, I am going put my faith in a touch of luck. Ross was born on the 22nd of October, 1982. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a her sister. In Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of activities. While a prep student she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. In the last sport she was clearly the standout. As a high school volleyball career in her university profile, she played as an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. She was awarded one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. Additionally, in 2000, she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are doing what they do in 2017. But, Ross was a major player in the beach volleyball scene before joining the duo. She has won major competitions with different players. The other has become an iconic player in the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to 2013. Alongside Kessy Ross was an ace on the international stage, claiming the world championship in 2009. They won a Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group to beat out for gold. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The team won bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after her high school days. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross made her debut on the beach and became a pro. Ross's Trojans experience was remarkable. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year when she was a teen freshman. In addition, she helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss during her sophomore year, but was still successful in achieving the All-American award. During her final two seasons with the Trojans team they won success by winning two consecutive national championships. Her individual achievements have cemented her place as a legendary volleyball player. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, did not have the chance to watch her daughter become an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001, when Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. The cancer was diagnosed as breast. Her mother is still close to her heart. Margie is an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
